Safeguarding

A home studio with the door open.

Carnatic music is taught here as a craft and as a duty of care. Parents are not guests we tolerate.

  1. 01

    Open door

The teaching door remains open. A parent may sit in any class. After the first two lessons we ask parents to wait outside so the child can work — the door still does not close on them.

  2. 02

    No physical contact

Voice is taught by listening and demonstration. We do not correct posture or mouth shape by touch.

  3. 03

    A house, not a shopfront

Arrive five minutes early; collect on time. No shoes in the teaching room. Phones silent.

  4. 04

    UK compliance

Enhanced DBS, public liability, and a notice to the home insurer are how we operate. Names, dates of birth and WhatsApp numbers are kept only to run classes, stored privately, never sold.

  5. 05

    If something is wrong

WhatsApp +44 7587 715645. Concerns about a child’s safety are referred to Leicester City Council children’s services or the NSPCC helpline (0808 800 5000). We would rather over-report than wait.

House rules

  • Fifteen minutes’ practice a day. Parents sit with under-tens.
  • Five minutes early. Collected on time — this is a house.
  • Parents may sit the first two lessons, then wait outside. The door stays open.
  • A music notebook every week. Homework is written in it, by hand.
  • Bring a shruti-box app if you have one. Pitch is taught, not assumed.
